Title Sequence. Dale Hill

“When I did the effect for the title I used…a fish tank that was about four feet wide by two feet high. I put smoke in the fish tank and on the back of the tank I put the title that was drawn on an animation cel and behind that I had a piece of plastic garbage bag which I stretched over a frame and behind that I had a light pointing through the letters. When I photographed it, I put a flame from a match to the plastic. The plastic would open up and let the light through the letters. That is how the letters look like they form and burn on with the [light] rays. It was a simple process but we went through a lot of takes; one take only formed the letters “N.G.”

NOTE: On a film set, the mark of “N.G.” or “N.F.G.” is taped to any equipment that does not work. No good.

Reviews of similar films - Rebecca McBain

Similar films:

This thriller really does keep you on the edge of your seat throughout; it is very dark, very creepy and has a terrifying atmosphere.

The story is quite simple really, it relies on strong characterisation and good dialogue.

Instead of being a slasher or a horror it is a thriller with a horror twist. This makes it better – it may not be as scary as you expect but it is a better story and is creepy rather than schlocky!

Jump scenes rule the day here. That's right, this baby is stocked with jump scenes! And they're manufactured frequently and shrewdly enough to keep you in a constant state of unease.

This is a movie that's heavy on atmosphere and freaky imagery.

The Grudge does a great job of keeping you guessing. You never really know where it's going, and since the story isn't linear you really have to pay attention.

I think it works fairly well, but one of my complaints is that near the end everything is wrapped up and explained rather quickly.

Take note of the lack of dialogue in the movie, yet how much emotion is conveyed.

Its scary because for a culture that has spirits watching over every little thing you could think of, having a few spirits who's purpose is to cause pain is pretty serious.

The skipping about in the timeline is done very well as well.

It serves up plenty of scares, but it also has a sense of humor which keeps the tone light and fun.

It's scary as hell, gruesome in a couple of well placed scenes, and funny without weakening the tension.

And the creators of the film were damn smart to write sympathetic characters we could relate to.

Make no mistake, this is classic slasher territory.

"Hellbent" doesn't play the self referential game that most modern slashers do.

At times, the movie is tense and, I must admit, the last part got me on the edge of my seat.

Lisa Clayton- Genre of Horror films

Plots involve death, supernatural or mental illness. Horror films are often combined with science fiction when the menance or monster is related to a corruption of technology, some of previous films which are genred to be horrors interprete from acienent myths.
Early horror movies are largely based on classic literature of gothic/horror genre, such as dracula, frankinstein and the Phantom of the opera. More recent horror films in contrast, often draw inspiration from the insecurities of life after World War II, giving rise to the three distinct, but related sub-genre: the horror-of-personality.
The last sub-genre, may be seen as a modernised transition of earlyer horror films, expanding on their emphasis on supernatural agents that bring horror to the world. Horror films have been dismissed as violent, low budget B movies and exploitation films. Some horror films incorporate elements of other genres such as science fiction, fantasy and thriller.

Lisa Clayton - Classification & Target audience

The classification we have decided to give our film would be a 15 certificate. We have chasoen this over 18 as our film contains scenes of strong threat and menace and we feel it would be too strong to be rated 12a yet not severe enough to be rated an 18 certificate. Following BBFC guidelines as to 15 certificates: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/recent/films.

The target audience we are aiming for would be 15 - 25 year old's as films of this genre are most popular with this age range and mostly with males although are film could appeal to older generations and to other sexes.

Lisa Clayton - Films of a similar genre

Attached are some examples of other films that match the genre we are aiming for in our film:
